FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(5/14/06 Sparta, KY) - With Friday's practice session completely rained out, the ARCA RE/MAX Series Harley Davidson of Cincinnati 150 at Kentucky Speedway quickly became a one day event. Under ominous skies Brandon Knupp and the MK Racing Team took to the track for practice, Pork Pole qualifying and the race.
The early practice session saw Knupp make several small adjustments to the #96 to get it comfortable for qualifying. Once the practice session ended the crew continued to prepare their Ford for Pork Pole Qualifying. Knupp was tapped to practice an ARCA Lincoln Welder's Truck Series truck on the quarter mile when Tully Esterline, driver of the Rupp Seeds Chevrolet was delayed returning from the NASCAR Busch race in Darlington.
Back in the RE/MAX Series garage Knupp qualified his Racin' For a Livin' Taurus in the 19th starting spot. When the green flag waved Knupp knew the rain was coming and decided to drive a little conservative until the weather situation played out, however the other competitors weren't looking at it that way, in the center of turns 3 and 4 they decided to make it 3 cars wide and Knupp ended up spinning before the first lap was completed. Under caution and losing a lap Knupp headed to pit road to repair the damage to the right rear of his Ford. Back under green Brandon had no problem keeping up with the lead pack but to no avail, he was already down a lap. With all of the cautions and rain delays fuel mileage wasn't a factor and Knupp was set for a decent finish. That wasn't meant to be as lap 96 saw the sway bar arm break on the #96 sending Brandon spinning off of turn 4 and down the front stretch. Once the problem was assessed on pit road with no time to repair the broken sway bar arm, Knupp finished the race with sparks flying and remained only 1 lap down in the 21st finishing position.
"I really don't know what they were thinking." Said Knupp, "I don't mind a little 3 wide racing but I think we should atleast get 1 lap in the books, I mean you're not gonna win the thing on the first lap. It's just really disappointing for us we had a good car, our qualifying effort didn't really show it but we were gonna race really good. When the sway bar arm broke it just whipped me around like somebody grabbed the wheel from me." Knupp added, "I don't know what we have to do to catch a break at this point I'm open to all options."
