KNUPP HONORED WITH H.G. ADCOX SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(December 12, 2005, Covington, Kentucky) - The 2005 ARCA Re/Max Series Championship Awards Banquet was held Saturday night at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky. The top twenty finishers in the national standings were honored.
However, for Sidney, Ohio racer Brandon Knupp the evening evolved into an especially rewarding evening. Not only was Knupp awarded the trophy for his respected sixth place points finish he was also honored with the H. G. Adcox Sportsmanship Award.
The H. G. Adcox Sportsmanship award is given by Herb Adcox, the father of Grant Adcox who had great success in the ARCA Re/max Series as well as the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, before he tragically lost his life at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1989. The Sportsmanship Award is given in his honor to a select few of deserving individuals who exhibit the ability to show class and the true definition of sportsmanship to fellow competitors, officials and fans alike.
Brandon was called behind the stage to receive what he thought was only his sixth place points award, but to his surprise was summoned to the podium to receive the coveted award. A shocked Knupp was almost at a loss for words, he graciously thanked ARCA, Mr. Adcox, his family and crew as well as the Championship team and good friends at Jack Bowsher & Associates Motorsports.
Once again called to the stage to receive his sixth place award trophy along with his father, Mark Knupp for the car owner trophy. Brandon spoke of the year as a learning experience and thanked his sponsors family and crew before dedicating his entire 2005 race season to his grandfather who passed away just a few short months ago.
"I knew I was receiving the sixth place points trophy, but what an honor to receive the sportsmanship award, this is a total shocker, I am so overwhelmed by this." said Knupp. " This is the greatest award to me, I never imagined that I was even being considered for something like this, it makes everything, hard work and all well worth it."
Brandon and the MK Racing crew head to Daytona International Speedway on December 16, 17 and 18 for the ARCA Re/Max Series open test session in preparation for the upcoming ARCA Daytona 200 in February.
